We were saddened, but not really surprised, to read the following words from Callie's family, because we knew Callie was a difficult dog to work with initially at her new home. While we hoped she might get better, we weren't sure. : "The time has come to re-home Callie. She has been with us for nearly 8 months and it has become undeniable that - despite how very wonderful she is - we are not a perfect fit for her. The long absences from home in our family really stresses her out and she becomes destructive. She is VERY gentle and wonderful with (albeit sometimes excited about) children. Must be in a home with no cats, and no dogs (or a small dog she pre-approves). She would do best in a home where the family is home more often than not. She would love to have a yard that she can run around in, but if left unattended a fence will not keep her in. She is a golden retriever / yellow lab, approx 6 years, good health (rabies up to date). Knows (and usually listens to) "Sit," "Let's go," "potty" "lay down" and "no" and "Callie." We have been working on "come on." She also likes to high-five / shake, play hide-and-seek with treats, and have her belly scratched (a lot!). Here she is with my 5 year old son, with whom she has always been extremely gentle. And getting out of the river after a long hike. And as you can see, when everyone is home, she is incredibly happy and relaxed. She seems to be OK with dogs that are smaller than her. My sister's blue heeler (male) and Callie get along OK for the most part, and then someone starts snarling. The basset hound down the street (female) and the tiny lap dog next door are both completely fine with her (although they are all always on a leash, in the yard.)" This dog is still with her family and not at the Campbell County Animal Control Facility. We always begin with an application to adopt, and this will be forwarded to the foster family for review. You can find this on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
