About GusGus: fostered

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
From his foster mom: "GusGus is my entire family's favorite! He goes on adventures daily with my different family members, ranging from grocery store trips to picking up my nieces and nephews. He is a very special and loving boy!" GusGus is the eight month old beagle surrendered to animal control because of long-term uncontrollable consumption of water and consequent housetraining problems. Two days into his foster experience, GusGus' foster mom got him to the vet. Turns out GusGus had the worse bladder/urinary tract infection the vet had ever seen! Within 24 hours of starting the antibiotic, he had made huge strides with housetraining, and now, several days in, he is able to hold his pee for hours at a time. GusGus is truly special! He was the runt in a litter of hunting beagles, and suffered from hydrocephalus. He was not expected to survive, but this little guy surprised everyone and beat the odds. We know there is a special place for him in someone's heart! He adores children and other dogs, and his special needs (loss of vision in his right eye) make him even more precious! ADOPTION GUIDELINES: Virginia’s Code requires that any unsterilized pets adopted from the Campbell County Animal Shelter may be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and have the pet spayed/neutered within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. Puppies or kittens in care at the shelter too young to be spayed/neutered before adoption may often be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. There is an adoption fee required for this process. We ask that you have a veterinarian on record who can verify that your other pets were well-cared for. Pets identified as being “fostered” are available for a fee. Fees range from $50 to $300. Fostered pets are not at the Campbell County Shelter and the animal wardens may not be familiar with those pets. An Adoption Application, available at the Campbell County Shelter, or online at our website www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org, is required prior to adoption. Specific questions are most easily answered by email, info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org, or by leaving a voicemail for one of our volunteers at 434-485-6242.
