Two days ago, Kimmi was frantic to get attention, scratching us with her needle-sharp claws, biting and nipping when we reached for her. She is a typical 4-1/2 month old puppy, high energy, and we have no idea what her history is, since we were told she was a stray. (Do I sound slightly skeptical??) Let me just say this: she is amazing! Treats, a clicker, praise—all work together to help uneducated puppies understand what you are expecting, because puppies don’t automatically know English! DO NOT ADOPT a puppy if you are not willing to invest literally hours each day to train, play, and bond. And if you want to add a smartie-pants pup like Kimmi, be ready to reward and challenge her with special tasks—because she is awesome! This “whizkid” picked up treat training in ten minutes and was offering eye contact within just a few trials. Are you smart enough to take on a dog with this much intelligence? Be ready! Kimmi appears to be a brilliant lab mix, with Mensa-rated thinking skills! Whew! Apply to adopt here: www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org
