Hound / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Large
It’s been a while since we’ve had adventure outings for our dogs on the weekends! It was so exciting when Heidi, one of our regular volunteers, contacted us about getting a dog out for Sunday afternoon. The only available companion was Tater, a one-year-old hound. Here is her report of their exciting day! “Tater was sweet, timid and a bit gassy when we started the hike. He wouldn’t let me pet him or even take a treat out of my hand. 5 minutes into our hike, he turned and smiled at me. Being out in the woods was great! And the longer the hike, the better he felt. His good hunting hound dog nose started working and our calm walk became more and more exciting! Tater found lots of great smells that he wanted to follow but I was holding him back. Then we met some other hikers that thought he was great! When they turned to leave, Tater wasn't going to let them get away - he jumped out of his harness into a young woman's arms! Luckily she caught him and helped me adjust from the harness to a collar he couldn't get out of. On the way home, Tater rested his head on my arm the whole way - I think he had a good time... **Moral of the story: First impressions aren't always what they seem when you visit a dog at the shelter.” We would like to point out that even though Tater is a bit hesitant to go with new people at first, he does embrace the idea when given time, and he loves other dogs!
