UPDATE: Check out Renee's video to see how much better she is feeling and now we know she loves to play. This is what loving attention and medicine can do. She's a whole new dog now! - - - Most likely you you don’t recognize this girl, just returned to the shelter after 24 hours as an in-patient at Animal Emergency & Critical Care of Lynchburg. On Saturday morning, Renee was puking yellow bile, and having bouts of explosive diarrhea. Because there can be many reasons for these symptoms, we didn’t rush to a vet office because most of them close as noon and then refer to AE& CC. Standard practice for vomiting or diarrhea is too fast the animal and see if improvement occurs. We knew by Sunday morning that Renee needed a visit to the veterinarian rather than just fasting. She was treated for dehydration, given antibiotics, and was released to our care this morning. Diagnosis is guessed to be HGE, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, which is critical and can be fatal if not treated. Thank you to Dr. Tubman and the staff at AECC for caring for this shelter dog just like they care for privately owned dogs. It’s always nice to hear the comment, “what a great dog this is! “ when we pick up our shelter pets from the veterinarian office. it appears Renee is back to her normal self, although she will be needing anabiotics for several days. It appears her family has not noticed she is missing yet, but we sure wish they would come look for her. She is obviously very loved by someone. She is attaching to lots of us at the shelter as well, so if she is not picked up by her family, we will be seeking a new home for her. Rene is 3 to 4 years old, 60 pounds, and appears to be a hound mix. She likes other dogs! She is a little too interested in cats however. Interested in adopting?
