Australian Kelpie / Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
Berri is proving to be the smart working breed mix that we assume she is (Shepherd with possible Cattle Dog in there too?). Although she has tons of drive, when given structure, guidance and leadership consistently she is happy to work and follow to be a part of the action instead of trying to lead the way as before. We are still working on reducing her anxiety in the crate. She goes in and downs on command perfectly, but she still seems to become unsettled an hour or two in it. We have found that she loves lounging outdoors and has not attempted to scale fencing, which is surprising given her athleticism! In this video, she is responding to voice commands very well; she has been completely conditioned to the e-collar, so that if needed because of noncompliance, I can communicate with her even at a distance. Her biggest challenge on walks were those pesky squirrels taunting us from the woods; they were so tempting to chase. But she can now stay in a heel and only requires low level taps from the e-collar to interrupt her focus on them if needed. This girl gets excited when she sees the leash and e-collar coming towards her as she knows it involves an adventure or it's time to work! Berri is still available for adoption through FOAC. Please share if you know anyone who would love a smart, playful, energetic, and adventurous companion. As much drive as she has for adventure, she also loves cuddling and snoozing on a comfy bed or couch; she's quite affectionate and loves to lean her head into you for a big hug. Berri absolutely loves to ride in the vehicle (because there's lots to see and she can't wait to see where we are going!) and is super comfy around ATV's, so a home with lots of land or a farm would be heaven for this girl. She'd also make a great candidate for agility or nose work because she's so athletic, smart and just loves to work.
