About Floyd: adopted

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White

Floyd is well on his way to recovery following a most frightening episode where he was near death from meningitis. His foster mom has cared for him for two weeks and now he is ready to move on to his next exciting chapter of life. Floyd is 14 months old and weighs about 45 pounds. He is happy, lively, and loves to play. Floyd is housetrained and cratetrained! He bounces all over the place in typical boxer fashion. He played nicely with several dogs with whom we tested him. He seems to be okay with cats, too. Here is what his foster mom has written: "Floyd was surrendered approximately two weeks ago by people who only stated that "it wasn't working out". From what I gather, Floyd's first owner had given to a second owner who then surrendered him -- poor thing has been bounced around a lot already. His vet records were provided, which indicate that he was cared for, at least in the beginning of his life. He is 14-months old, neutered, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Heartworm test was negative, and he's on Interceptor. When he was surrendered, he was terribly emaciated and looked like he had been neglected for a while. Heartbreaking. Floyd is crate-trained and house-trained and is a sweet, loving dog. He loves to play and to cuddle. The reason I haven't outright adopted him is that, at least so far, he doesn't really like my dog, who is also male. My best guess at this point is that he needs to be the only dog, but I may be under-estimating the sweet boy. He has been through a lot in the past few weeks and may just need time to adjust to new people and animals. On Floyd's first night with me, he ended up at the emergency vet and had to be hospitalized for a couple of days. Vet believes he has meningitis -- which is not contagious but could have been fatal had it not been treated. Floyd reacted positively and quickly to treatment with steroids, and he will be on prednisone and doxycycline for the next five weeks. He takes his meds wonderfully, and all meds have been paid for. With the exception of having to potty a lot because of the prednisone (which will stop), Floyd is doing great!
