About Fly: Fostered

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
  • Housetrained: Yes
FLY is about 18 months old now, and has been at his foster home for nine months. He came in as a stray to the facility and won the heart of a volunteer because of his special needy personality. We discovered that FLY loves to chase cars, and was actually the victim of one, resulting in a slight injury to his leg. He has recovered and appears to have suffered no permanent damage, but the need to chase and herd appears to be bred in him and a fenced yard would be so perfect for him! He has bonded to his foster mom deeply and may struggle to adapt to a new family, but if it's the right one, we want him to go there. Someone experienced with dogs who are "driven" to perform and someone willing to work with his sometimes-attitude is what we are hoping to find. He is smallish--around 35 pounds--and housetrained. He is not always good with all other dogs and cats, but the foster mom will be happy to go over those qualities when we forward her an application. Again, we are searching for an experienced adopter with a large fenced area, or a rural area where he will be safe from cars and other traffic. He is smart and cute, but he is very, very special! ADOPTION GUIDELINES: Virginia’s Code requires that any unsterilized pets adopted from the Campbell County Animal Shelter may be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and have the pet spayed/neutered within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. Puppies or kittens in care at the shelter too young to be spayed/neutered before adoption may often be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. There is an adoption fee required for this process. We ask that you have a veterinarian on record who can verify that your other pets were well-cared for. Pets identified as being “fostered” are available for a fee. Fees range from $50 to $300. Fostered pets are not at the Campbell County Shelter and the animal wardens may not be familiar with those pets. An Adoption Application, available at the Campbell County Shelter, or online at our website www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org, is required prior to adoption. Specific questions are most easily answered by email, info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org, or by leaving a voicemail for one of our volunteers at 434-485-6242.
