UPDATE 10/27: FREEWAY made his way from the vet hospital last night to a foster home. Freeway is long bodied and shorter legged than we figured in photos. He has the silky soft coat and face of a flat coat retriever. He is about 3 or four years old, and is submissive around other dogs. His current foster home includes three tiny dogs and a dog his own size. When we left last night, things looked like they were going to run smoothly. Freeway needs a home!
Original post:
Meet FREEWAY, the black lab hit by a car three days ago and a call was placed into Animal Control for pickup. He is making slow recovery following his initial assessment, was up and around on his own four feet yesterday! His left hip had been dislocated, and many people don't know that the first day or two following the "relocation" are critical--will it stay in place, or will it slide back out? It's still where it should be, so that is a super sign of recovery. Additionally, the eight-inch laceration on the front leg was stitched up yesterday, and our boy Freeway is feeling good! By Monday, he'll be ready for either a foster home or an adoptive home.
This dog is in a foster home soon and not at the Campbell County Animal Control Facility. We always begin with an application to adopt, and this will be forwarded to the foster family for review. You can find this on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
Specific questions are most easily answered by email, info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org, or by leaving a voicemail for one of our volunteers at 434-485-6242.
APPLICATIONS ARE REQUIRED TO ADOPT. Go to www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org
The policy for adopting an unsterilized pet requires that you live in Campbell County, Lynchburg City, or a county touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and spay/neuter the pet yourself within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. Kittens or puppies too young for spay/neuter may be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. We will be happy to help you make arrangements to do this.

Our process begins with an application, found on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org. Once your application has been received, a volunteer will call the references you list and then will contact you.
